SMALL IS BEAUTIFUL
Solihull CEP are working with Culture Solihull to deliver the 4th year of Small is Beautiful. 8 early career artists have been offered £200 micro-commissions to try out new ideas, concepts and ways of working, the outcomes of which will be showcased at The Core Theatre on Saturday 7th February 2026.

This programme is also being offered as a development opportunity for these young people, who also receive guidance on commission processes to support future applications, and gain a free years membership to the Core Creatives network.

Tickets to the showcase are free but must be booked in advance.

Amara Latchford
'Alien'
A musical composition that explores the idea of human smallness in the face of the infinite, and how our fleeting lives and emotions exist within an immeasurable cosmos. The piece experiments with more ambient textures, and experimental sounds to illustrate the quiet wonder of being part of something so vast.

Ayan Mahamud
'Meadows Creek'
A poetry film set in Solihull, exploring mental health, where the intersection of pain and pleasure invokes self-exploration, and reflection, ending in the realisation of choosing a meaningful, purposeful life.

Hadija Brittain- Harris
A solo dance piece exploring the hybridity of Ballroom and Latin roots with contemporary and hip-hop dance practice. The work will push the boundaries of what fusion is thought to be and demonstrate how tradition and innovation can truly coexist.

Humeira Naseem
'Generational"
A trailer for a new short film, which explores how different people from different time periods faced pushback in each of their eras, highlighting their stereotypes and their struggles.

Imogen Smith
An exhibition of printed textiles, taking inspiration from insects, which looks at patterns and colours, to draw abstract outcomes.

Michelle Amezcua
'Tree of The Universe'
A hand built scultpure depicting the tree of life, made with Staffordshire stone ware and black Vulcan clay. The piece is both a testament to the artists ancestors and cultural traditions, as well as present day collaborators, friends and community.

Milly Best
'Reforge'
A solo dance piece exploring what the body is capable of, after overcoming being paralysed for the past year. The piece is a reflection of resilience, adaptation, and rediscovery.

Shayan Mawlood
'Whispers of The Nightfolk'
A looping animation instillation, combining graphite drawing with digital composition. It explores the feeling of being between cultures or languages, and the search for belonging within unfamiliar places.
